Places to visit
Beaches – The very best is Knoll Beach at Studland, it is owned by the National Trust and is very well maintained. Swanage has a nice family beach and has a Punch and Judy show. Weymouth has beautiful sands and is very popular with people with young children. Sandbanks is worth a visit and is best reached by using the ferry from Studland. Lulworth Cove is not really a beach but still worth a visit. For windsurfing use Portland (has a rescue boat), or Poole Harbour. Both are very safe.
Walks – Too numerous to go through, buy a map and a book on local walks (If there are none on bookshelves in the Barn) and explore. The Dorset Coastal path is famous for its beauty. There are several walks around Coombe Keynes itself. The walks around Tyneham are scenic and spectacular if you climb the hills. The cliffs at Lulworth are well worth while. Discover Lulworth Castle by taking the public footpath just after the white gate main entrance to the Lulworth Estate.
Drives – Discover the Army Range roads which are free from traffic and generally very scenic. They are sometimes closed because of army exercises but this is rare. Sports Centre and Swimming Pool – The Purbeck Centre. Details on the notice board. It is very well kept and has everything including morning activities for children that are run every day during the school holidays.
Riding – About one mile down the road on the left is the Lulworth Equestrian Centre, telephone no. 01929 400396
Rainy Days – Try Tower Park near Poole. It has a ten pin bowling alley, an ice-skating rink, a water slide complex and a cinema with numerous screens. There are also plenty of places to eat including a Burger King. Be warned though, it all costs quite a bit. You can also use Tesco Superstore whilst you are there.
Other Places to Visit – There are too many to mention them all but those below we particularly like:- Brownsea Island. The Blue Pool. Swanage Railway. Poole Quay & Pottery. Brewers Quay, Weymouth. Lulworth Cove, Corfe Castle,.The New Forest (explore but don’t miss Beaulieu Motor Museum and Bucklers’ Hard). Swimming Pool at the Dolphin Centre Poole – It is has an Olympic size Pool and also separate diving and baby pools. Fun Pool at Warmwell – includes slide and wave machine. Abbotsbury Swannery.
